Welcome! I'm Abbey Mieritz - teacher, lifelong learner, and the creator of The Scholar’s Garden.

My educational journey has taken me down several paths. I graduated from Butler University majoring in Biology and Chemistry and later attended IPFW to study Nursing. I spent many years working as a Registered Nurse, where I developed a love for teaching, encouraging, and caring for others.

While raising my family, I made the decision to homeschool my children through high school. I desired for them to receive a Christ-centered education that offered both academic rigor and the flexibility to nurture each child's unique gifts and needs. During those years, I began tutoring other students as well and discovered a deep joy in helping young people learn and make connections.

As my own students neared graduation, I felt called to teach outside of the home more. I am now beginning my third year teaching middle school at a classical school, where I have the privilege of guiding students through multiple subjects including literature, history, and science. One of my greatest joys as an educator is witnessing the moment when concepts click, students gain confidence, and curiosity blossoms into a genuine love of learning.

Beyond the classroom, I love a good cup of coffee, reading great literature, and exploring history. I am an avid gardener and camper, and one of my life goals is to visit every national park in the United States.

I am also blessed to be wife to Steve, mother to three children—one precious child in heaven and two children on earth, Emma and Ethan—and the proud owner of a mischievous Golden Retriever named Pickles.

The Scholar’s Garden was born out of my love for classical education and my desire to encourage homeschooling families by providing thoughtful resources and courses rooted in what is good, true, and beautiful. My hope is that every student and parent who works with us leaves inspired to cultivate a lifelong love of learning.
